The Makers is a new project by America House Odesa. It is a series of documentary film screenings that brings together stories that shaped the United States.
Is it possible to turn your own life into a literary myth—and then find yourself trapped within it? This question is inseparable from the story of Ernest Hemingway, an American author, journalist, and recipient of both the Nobel Prize in Literature and the Pulitzer Prize who became a symbol of his era.
Hemingway began working at dawn, often wrote standing up, and carefully recorded his daily word count. He said that he rewrote the ending of A Farewell to Arms 39 times before finding the right words. Yet behind the public image of a fearless traveler, hunter, and war correspondent was a vulnerable person who struggled with declining mental health and the loss of his ability to write during the final years of his life.
Join us to watch and discuss in English a documentary about the life, creative process, and cultural legacy of one of the most influential American writers of the 20th century.

Чи можливо перетворити власне життя на літературний міф, а потім опинитися в його полоні? Це питання нерозривно пов’язане з історією Ернеста Гемінґвея — американського письменника, журналіста, лауреата Нобелівської та Пулітцерівської премій, який став символом своєї епохи.
Гемінґвей починав працювати вдосвіта, часто писав стоячи та щодня фіксував кількість створених слів. Він зізнавався, що переписав фінал роману «Прощавай, зброє!» 39 разів, перш ніж знайшов правильні слова. Однак за публічним образом безстрашного мандрівника, мисливця й воєнного кореспондента ховалася вразлива людина, яка в останні роки життя боролася з погіршенням психічного здоров’я та втратою здатності писати.
Отже, дивимося та обговорюємо англійською документальний фільм про життя, творчий метод і культурну спадщину одного з найвпливовіших американських письменників ХХ століття.
