The Makers is a new project by America House Odesa. It is a series of documentary film screenings that brings together stories that shaped the United States.
Is it possible to write 14 books, advocate for the rights of people with disabilities, and pursue a political career if you have been almost completely blind and deaf since birth? All of this describes Helen Keller — an American author, political activist, educator, and pioneer of cinema who was both blind and deaf.
Before the age of seven, Helen and her family had developed around 60 different signs for communication. However, she began receiving a formal education thanks to her teacher Anne Sullivan, who herself had a visual impairment. She was one of the first to apply methods of teaching and communication for people who are both blind and deaf. Their meeting marked the beginning of a 49-year collaboration.
So, join us to watch and discuss in English a documentary about the strength of a woman who remains one of the most inspiring figures of the 20th century.

Ще до 7 років Гелен і її родина мали близько 60 різних знаків для спілкування. Але справжню освіту дівчинка почала здобувати завдяки викладачці Енн Салліван, яка й сама мала порушення зору. Вона була однією з перших, хто використовував методики навчання і спілкування для людей, які одночасно не бачать і не чують. Зустріч Енн і Гелен започаткувала період спільної роботи тривалістю 49 років.
Отже, дивимося та обговорюємо англійською документальний фільм про силу духу жінки, яка є однією з найбільш надихаючих постатей в історії ХХ століття.
